Name:
Polar Bear

From:
Shirokuma Café

Appearance:

The polar bear one

Age:
Adult

Gender:
Male

Personality:
Unlike regular polar bears, Polar Bear is extremely calm and mellow, very rarely raising his voice in anger ...or at all. In fact, he tends to speak in a soft, almost monotone manner. He's friendly and kind and a hard worker, his café and its tip-top condition being proof as such.

He seems to be surprisingly intelligent, knowing strange trivia facts that most people or animals would never even care to know. At the same time, he can also be awfully silly. It may be that he does this on purpose, his sense of humor is certainly ...interesting.

This is also apparent in his continuation to bullshit stories, mostly about his life and accomplishments he may or may not be lying about. It's because of this that truly incredible stories he tells are to be brushed off because he's probably trying to pull your leg. He is rather convincing, though... Polar Bear has an amazing poker face.

He enjoys the company of others and makes friends fairly easy. Extremely loyal, he has no problem going out of his way to do special things for those he cares about. For example, after only a few visits to the café, Polar Bear added bamboo to his menu just for Panda even though it was unlikely anyone else would order such a dish. He also has no problem when it comes to taking time from his busy schedule to see friends or do favors.

Backstory:
Polar Bear's beginnings are forever shrouded in mystery because heck if he'll ever tell anyone the truth. There are a few versions of his story; one being a bit more serious, where he was separated from his family when he was very young. He was then found by a fisherman and given to said fisherman's parents to look after, where he was raised in their restaurant and grew a love for cooking. When he grew too large for them to keep, he moved out and started his own café. It was his dream that his café would become popular enough for his parents to hear about so that they would visit and they would be reunited again.

The other version was that he just opened the
café after he quit his construction job.

Whatever it is, we'll never know, but the truth is that the story doesn't begin with Polar Bear. It actually starts with a very lazy panda who was living with his mother.
Tired of her son's behavior, she began urging him to do something with his life, usually by trying to suck him up with her vacuum cleaner.

After slowly getting the picture, Panda began looking for a part-time job. The only problem was he lacked any real experience and he simply wanted a job where he'd get paid for doing very little. As anyone could guess, this wasn't working very well for him. He was growing very close to giving up altogether.

Eventually, during one of his outings while following a butterfly, Panda stumbles across Polar Bear Café. There, he meets the namesake owner, Polar Bear, who welcomes him and asks if he's a customer. Seemingly hungry all the time, Panda is seated and gets his first taste of the café. To his dismay, however, they don't serve bamboo.

Upon overhearing a conversation between Polar Bear and his friend, Penguin, Panda soon discovers that Polar Bear is planning to take interviews for a new part-timer as he is short-staffed at the moment. He instantly chimes in and declares how he's been looking for a part-time job and asks for an interview.

Polar Bear conducts the interviews alongside Penguin, all of which weren't very good. The last potential employee, Panda, seemed to be the first promising interview in a long line of very bizarre ones. Of course, thanks to Panda's lazy nature and his requirements including only working two days in a week, he doesn't pass and Polar Bear is without staff.

That's when, suddenly, a young woman and a sloth walk in to ask Polar Bear if Sloth could perhaps live in his (impressively large) yard. Polar Bear is so impressed by this sudden girl that he hires her on the spot. He also gains a sloth so everybody wins.

Except Panda. Still without a job, it's then suggested that maybe he should think about working part-time at the zoo. The zoo ends up working great for him because he's allowed to sleep on the job and all he has to do is eat and play and act cute for the crowd. When he returns to visit the café, Polar Bear then surprises him by adding bamboo to his menu. It is also thanks to Panda and his new job that the café received new frequent customers in the zoo animals that Panda befriended.

The rest of the story is about Polar Bear, Panda, and Penguin's daily lives that usually revolve around the café or at the very least, start out in it. Since Shirokuma Café is a slice of life style anime, this usually includes plots that revolve around things like Panda trying a diet, driving lessons, and getting a new smartphone. For a world full of talking animals, life is pretty normal.

Moral Standing:
Good. For a polar bear, he's pretty harmless

Dreams:
The fictitious dream of seeing his family again and any other nonsense he feels like making up. An actual dream would be to continue running a successful and popular business.

Fears:
Apparently nothing extreme, he's just that laid back. Obvious fears like injury or dying are a given. Maybe getting robbed. He's a polar bear, just because he's mellow doesn't mean he doesn't know how to deal with other people's shit.

Extra:
-Polar Bear has a love for puns. That is, he has a running gag where he will occasionally take a word someone says and bring up other things that sound like it. Here's a good example. But, um, in English these puns probably don't work as well. As such, all pun gags will be in written English rather than using the Japanese words (as in he'll be picking out the English words and rhyming them with other English words).

-This is still an ongoing series, so any new information I'll be sure to add. Since the concept/story is very simple, though, I doubt there will be anything extremely major.
